Farmer School Golf Classic returns to help Habitat for Humanity

Some would say that any April day that you can hit the links in southwest Ohio is a good one. But what if you could also help a great cause?
You can! The 11th annual Farmer School Golf Classic takes place at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 15th at the Hueston Woods Golf Course.
The event is student-run and managed and benefits Habitat for Humanity, which has received more than $140,000 from the event over the previous 10 years.
“I think they do great work … helping people get into homes, but in an affordable way that helps the culture. I think it’s good to give them resources they can use,” event chairman Jeff Britton said.The goal is to have 90 participants and raise at least $7,500, he said.
Jeff, a junior majoring in supply chain and operations, got involved with the event last year because he was “someone who liked golf, but wanted to learn about fundraising, and had never really done it before.”
Afterward, Jeff was asked to run this year’s student-led event, which brings together students, faculty, staff, and sponsors. Mixed teams have a shotgun start, and lunch is provided.
“We have truly enjoyed being the nonprofit beneficiary of the Farmer School of Business Golf Classic. We have had several of our Habitat employees attend the golf outing and they rave about the event,” Habitat for Humanity’s Tricia Sunders said. “Each and every gift that we receive at Habitat helps a Greater Cincinnati family build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter.”
Besides the obvious benefit for Habitat for Humanity, Jeff believes that everyone involved gets something out of the event, especially students.
“I think it’s an experience to be in that environment, for students to be playing with people that are older than them, in positions of power … I think is really beneficial,” he said.
The price for a student foursome is $100 ($25 per person) and the price for a corporate/faculty/alumni foursome is $200 ($50 per person). Those interested in participating can sign up at here.
